Human Actions

Even though humans are the reason for the depletion of our Earth's nonrenewable energy sources, we have acted in ways that will right the wrongs we have done. Our actions are improving the energy situation and were starting to take initiative in changing the way we live. Some things were doing to step in the right direction of using biofuels as the new energy are:

- Hawaiian Electric Company built a powerplant that uses biofuel to create electricity that's located in Campbell Industrial Park (gets biofuels from Pacific Biodiesel

- A powerplant running on biofuels similar to the Campbell powerplant is being built by HECO in Schofield Barracks (this plant is planning to use waste oils from restaurants in Schofield) - plant hasn't been built yet

- Pacific Biodiesel is the leading producer of biofuels in the state located on the Big Island

- Terviva's Pongamia trees can be used to be a more resource and energy-efficient source for oil to be made into biofuels

- Many people are putting in their input through legislation and public policy to voice their opinion on why biofuels are an important part of Hawaii's renewable energy
