Policies & Practices

There are many policies and practices in place to help Hawaii use less nonrenewable energy and more renewable energy. Some are even specifically about the usage of biofuels.  

The policies and practices in place are:

- Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative: 70% of state’s energy will be energy-efficient and from renewable sources by 2030

100% of state’s energy from renewable sources by 2045

 

- Biofuels Production Land Use Allowance and Exemption: Lands originally zoned as agricultural use districts may be used for renewable energy production, storage, and distribution including the production of biofuels

 

- The Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1975: Requires the Bureau of Land Management to adapt a multiple use management policy 

 

- Department of Land and Natural Resources- Land Division: Can lease public land for social, environmental, and economic well-being
